Marks and Spencers PLC (M&S) is a British multinational retailing company with over 1000 stores around the world, selling food and clothing. In October 2015, mandatory company-wide ethics training was launched to raise awareness of business ethics throughout the organisation. To some degree, the same can be said of the initial transaction, but the responsibility to provide information is not as compelling, as there is no previous experience between the parties.
In the context of action , it was concluded that an action is not ethical in and of itself, but the consequences of that action provoke a consideration of the ethics. And at this, a working definition of obligation can be derived: obligation is the requirement for an individual to consider the consequences of an action to other parties in advance of undertaking that action.
This includes self-control, consumer protection and welfare, service to society, fair treatment to social groups, not to exploit others, etc. For example, many businesses are now feeling a social responsibility to cut back on their pollution in the environment.
