Examples may be Bachelor’s degrees from the Danish academies of professional higher education, the Bachelor’s degree in Product Development and Technical Integration from VIA University College, the Bachelor’s degree in Technology Management and Marine Engineering and Technical Officers with a completed degree before 2014, to which applicants may have been admitted without an entry examination.
Other business development functions are more biased towards working with evaluating investments or divestments to improve the overall portfolio of business activities (quadrant 2). Their work typically focuses on improving existing market positions and improving the company’s competitiveness and market share within already-defined businesses.
A pennysaver mentality for proposals leads to cutting out the all-important capture activities, overworking and burning out staff, and deciding to save a few thousand dollars at the end to cut corners on a bid that could have won if the company hadn’t scrooged on the last few touches that could have taken the proposal from green to blue.
Leadership is the ability to see a gap between what is and what should be and the willingness to take responsibility for closing it. Leadership can also be the ability to create a gap between what is and what should be, where such a gap is necessary to propel the business forward, and, then, taking responsibility for closing it.
A particular interest will be taken into how business development activities differ across company sizes and growth stages, from early-stage startups to fully-grown companies, and the various institutions that can support companies on their paths to growth.
